Build a Survey in Excel. Deploy It Everywhere.
ArcGIS Survey123 is Esri's form-centric data collection app. Build smart forms with skip logic and validation, then collect responses online or off, from a phone, tablet, or browser. Best of all, you can author your form starting from an Excel spreadsheet.
What Survey123 Does
Survey123 turns a set of questions into a smart, location-aware form. Capture text, numbers, photos, signatures, barcodes, and GPS location, with built-in logic that skips or requires questions based on how someone answers. Responses feed straight into your ArcGIS organization, ready to map, analyze, and turn into reports.
Simplified Field Data Collection
Build Forms Easily
Author your form using the XLSForm standard in a spreadsheet, or use Survey123's browser-based drag-and-drop designer if you'd rather skip Excel entirely.
Works Everywhere, Even Offline
Collect responses through a modern browser on any device, or use the dedicated field app for offline data collection out in the field.
Built-In Analysis and Reporting
Responses are ready to explore the moment they're submitted — view results on a map, analyze trends, and generate formatted reports without exporting to another tool.

ArcGIS Survey123 FAQs
Quick answers to what people ask us most about building and collecting surveys.
Do I need to know Excel to build a survey?
It’s helpful, but not required.
Survey123's browser-based web designer lets you build a form with drag-and-drop questions and no spreadsheet involved. Excel-based authoring (via the XLSForm standard) is there if you want more advanced logic, calculations, or repeat sections.
Can I collect responses without an internet connection?
Yes, the field app works fully offline.
Download your survey to the Survey123 field app before you lose connection, collect responses as usual, and they'll sync automatically once you're back online.
Can other people fill out my survey without an ArcGIS account?
Yes, if you share it publicly.
Public surveys can be completed by anyone with the link, in either the web app or field app, no ArcGIS account required. You control this setting when you share your survey.
What kinds of questions can I ask?
Nearly anything!
Beyond standard text, number, and multiple-choice questions, Survey123 supports photos, signatures, barcodes, sketches, and GPS-located map questions — useful for anything tied to a physical place.
