Collect Data From Anywhere Fieldwork Takes You
ArcGIS Field Maps turns your phone or tablet into a mobile GIS station — built for the moment your research moves out of the lab and into the field. UMN researchers have used it around the world, including well outside cell service range.
What ArcGIS Field Maps Does
Field Maps is a location-aware mobile app for collecting and editing spatial data on the ground — mapping assets, filling out smart forms, and recording your exact location as you work. It's built to keep working when your connection doesn't: download a map area before you head out, collect data fully offline, and sync everything automatically once you're back in range.
Built for Seamless Field Operations
Works Fully Offline
Working in a remote area? Download map areas in advance and collect data with no signal at all. Your edits sync the moment you reconnect.
Smart, Customizable Forms
Collect data through configurable forms: including photos, auto-filled fields like date and inspector name, and conditional logic, so your data comes back clean and consistent.
Available Wherever You Work
Field Maps runs on iOS, Android, and Windows 11. Install it from whichever app store your device uses.
Sign In With the Account You Already Have
Field Maps uses your existing UMN ArcGIS Online account. There's no separate sign-up.
Steps
- Download ArcGIS Field Maps from the App Store, Google Play, or Microsoft Store.
- Open the app and choose Sign In with ArcGIS Online.
- Enter umn as your organization URL, then sign in with your UMN Internet ID.
You'll need a map that's been shared with you before you can start collecting data with your mobile. You can use Field Maps Designer to create a map for data collection.

ArcGIS Field Maps FAQs
Quick answers to what people ask us most about collecting data in the field.
Do I need cell service to use Field Maps?
No. It works fully offline.

What devices does Field Maps work on?
iOS, Android, and Windows.
Field Maps is available wherever you get your apps — the App Store, Google Play, or the Microsoft Store — so it runs on the phone, tablet, or Windows device you already carry into the field.
Can my whole research team collect data together?
Yes! Field Maps is built for shared fieldwork.
Maps and forms can be shared across your whole research team, so everyone collects into the same dataset. Edits from the field sync back to one authoritative source once everyone's online.

Field Maps collects data into a map that's been configured for editing, either by you in ArcGIS Online, via Field Maps Designer, or by your research team.
